Self-Care for the Summer
Summer often arrives with full calendars, longer days, and the hum of activity. Amidst the sunshine and movement, it can be easy to forget to slow down and care for ourselves with the same tenderness we offer others. At Shared Roots Collective, we believe self-care doesn’t have to be extravagant or time-consuming, it can be simple, sensory, and rooted in what makes you feel whole. Here are a few of our favorite ways to reconnect with yourself this season:
Start Your Morning Outside
Begin your day by stepping outside—even just for a few minutes. Whether it’s sipping tea on your front steps, taking a walk by the lake, or sitting quietly on a park bench, the early light and fresh air can set a peaceful tone for the rest of your day. It’s a gentle reminder that you’re part of something bigger.
Make Something With Your Hands
Engage your senses through creativity. Paint, sew, repot a plant, collage, journal, or cook a favorite meal. Creating something—no matter how small or imperfect—can be a grounding way to process emotion, express joy, or simply enjoy the act of making. It’s not about the outcome, it’s about the presence it brings.
Carve Out Mindful Moments
It’s okay to pause. In fact, your body and spirit may be asking for it. Take intentional breaks to stretch, breathe deeply, or sit in silence between tasks. Even a moment of stillness can help you return to yourself and move through your day with more clarity and care.
Hydrate With Intention
Drinking water is essential, but it can also be an act of love. Infuse your water with lemon, cucumber, berries, or fresh herbs to make it feel special. Keep a beautiful glass or jar nearby and turn hydration into a ritual that reminds you: you are worth tending to.
Get Lost in a Book
Summer is a perfect time to escape into the pages of a good book. Whether you’re curled up in a shady spot or reading on the beach, let stories (both fiction and non-fiction) accompany you. Books can be mirrors, windows, or companions, gently reminding us that healing and insight often live in unexpected places. Check out our Summer Reading list for some recommendations.
Reach Out to Your Circle
You don’t have to do this season alone. Reach out to your people, those who hold you up and remind you who you are. A quick text, a check-in call, or a shared cup of coffee can be enough to feel seen and connected. Support goes both ways, and your presence might be just what someone else needs too.
