Mission

At Shared Roots Collective, our mission is to empower survivors of sexual harm through restorative justice and community care. We offer healing and accountability dialogues, community circles, and training to support survivors and foster resilience, while also offering workshops to engage and educate the broader community.

Vision

Our vision is to create a world where survivors of sexual harm are supported through empathetic, transformative, and restorative practices, where healing and empowerment are prioritized, and where communities come together to build a culture of understanding and justice. We envision a future where every individual can access compassionate support and restorative opportunities that promote long-lasting healing and systemic change.

Values

Radical Belonging
We believe in the inherent dignity of every person who walks through our doors. Radical belonging means accepting people exactly as they are, without judgment or preconditions. We meet folks wherever they’re at in their journey, recognizing that each person brings individual gifts and strengths that make our community whole. This isn’t just inclusion—it’s the deep knowing that we would be incomplete without each unique member of our community.

Beloved Community
We know that healing happens in relationship and that none of us can go it alone. Beloved community is both our practice and our vision—a space where we care for each other collectively, keep each other safe, heal, and grow together. Through shared meaning-making and mutual support, we create the conditions for deep transformation.

Joyful Creativity
We embrace creativity as a pathway back to our truest selves. Through accessible, holistic approaches, we support each person in designing their own healing journey. We know that joy, play, and beauty are not luxuries but necessities for transformation. By helping each person who comes to us to envision and create their own path forward, we resist the status quo and imagine new possibilities and a better world.

Courageous Growth
Growth requires vulnerability—the courage to speak our truths, name our needs, and be accountable for harm we’ve caused. We create accessible spaces for this brave work, accompanying people on their journeys without judgment. Whether someone is seeking healing or taking responsibility, we honor that growth demands risk and support them in taking those necessary leaps. We believe in everyone’s capacity to learn, change, and transform.

Rooted Solidarity
We honor the Indigenous and Black communities whose wisdom gave birth to restorative justice practices. Our work is grounded in awareness of structural harm and systems of oppression, while maintaining deep respect for those who come to us, trusting they know who they are and what they need to heal. We practice collective responsibility, understanding that trust must be earned through consistent truth-telling about historical harms.

Land and Labor Acknowledgement

Shared Roots Collective acknowledges that we operate on the traditional lands of the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations, as well as the Myaamia, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, and other Indigenous Peoples who have been the stewards of this land for generations. The land we are on is known as Turtle Island.

We pay our respects to their elders, past and present, and express gratitude for their continued custodianship of the land, waterways, and resources. We recognize the historical and ongoing impact of colonization and strive to be mindful of our role in reconciliation.

As we work towards healing and building connections within our community, we commit to learning from and supporting the Indigenous Peoples who call this land home.
